Blacksmithing

  1. What is a BOD?

It is a Bulk Order Deed.  Basically, a help request for crafted items from NPCs to players.  They come in the form of deeds with specifc items to be crafted.

  2. How do I get a BOD?

You can only get a BOD if you sell an item to an NPC smith (guildmistress or regular smith; armourers will not give BODs).  Just sell 1 item at the time.  You may receive your deed at the first attempt but sometimes it takes up to 20 attempts before they give you anything.  If you do not get one after 5-6 attempts, I suggest that you wait until the NPC resets before trying again. You can sell ANYTHING that the NPC will buy to get the BOD (eg. kindling, ingots, daggers, armor, shields, junk you got off t-chest, you name it) and that won't affect the quality of the BOD you receive.

  3. Who can get a BOD?

Any character with at least .1 smithing can get a BOD, but I find it takes less time if the char has at least 10.0 blacksmithing skill.  If you only intend to resell the BODs, that's all you will need.  But in order to complete them, you will need to increase your skills significantly.  BODs are however transferable.

  4. How often can I get a BOD from a NPC?

Blacksmiths with less than 70 skill will be able to get a new BOD every 2 hours.  Players with 70+ smithing skills will only be able to get a new BOD every 6 hours.  If you try to get one before that time has lapsed, the NPC will keep buying your items forever but will never give you a BOD.  To know how much time before you're allowed to get another BOD, click once on the NPC and select "BOD Info" from the menu.

  5. What are LBODs and SBODs?

There are 2 types of BODs:  LBOD (large bulk order deeds) and SBOD (small bulk order deeds).  You need the SBODs to complete the LBODs.  LBODs are always orders for complete armor suits whereas SBODs can be either parts or an armor (legs or tunic or gloves...), either weapons (krysses, maces, axes...), either helms or shields.  In order to complete a LBOD you will need to find each of the SBOD of the corresponding armor type, fill those SBOD then combine them to the appropriate LBOD.

  6. How do I complete a BOD?

SBODs are simple to fill.  To complete them, you only need to make the armor or weapon parts that are requested on the deed.  Double click the deed for the window to open then click the combined button.  Your cursor will become a target. Select the armor part you need to attach to it.  As you fill them up, the number of items completed will increase accordingly on the SBOD.

The LBODs are a bigger pain.  You need to find the matching SBODs to complete it.  That's the biggest challenge because many factors are to be taken into consideration: ingot color, quality of the items (exceptional or normal), quantity (10, 15 or 20) and armor type (ringmail, chainmail or plate).  For instance, if you get a LBOD for 15 Exceptional Shadow Chainmail Suits, you will need to find the following 3 SBODs to complete it: 15 except shadow chainmail tunic, 15 except shadow chainmail leggings and 15 except shadow chainmail coif.  If you get a SBOD for 15 normal shadow chainmail leggings, it will NOT work, because the LBOD specifically requires them to be exceptional.

  7. What's the reward for completing a BOD?

Every completed BOD will give 3 rewards: fame, gold and a magical item. The rewards will vary based on the difficulty of the BODs.  Any BOD requiring colored ingots, exceptional items and/or plate armor will yield better rewards. However, even shield or helm BODs shouldn't be discarded.

Once again, the Tower of Roses has done an awesome job at providing info on the BOD Rewards.

  8. I can't find the SBODs to complete my LBODs

You will stand a better chance completing LBODs if you trade and exchange the BODs you get with other players.  A good site for this is BODs 'R' Us, Deed Finder or the Bulk Order Repository.  You should also visit player run vendors as many put their BODs up for sale.

  9. How do I get my reward?

Which ever char you wish to receive the fame, gold and magic item, simply has to drop the completed BOD on an NPC smith.  You will hear a musical sound, and a check or gold plus an item will appear in your backpack.  You will also get a message advising you that you received a lot of fame.
