"If the only tool you have is a hammer,
you tend to see every problem as a nail"

   – Abraham Maslow

Macing is a hammer and mace weapon combat skill. It uses the slowest of all weapons but this lack of speed is well compensated by uber dammage, the ability to drain the stamina of your opponent as well as the capacity to destroy the shield and armor of your target (except when using a smith's hammer or magic wand). To increase the amount of damage you will deal, the anatomy skill is also a must. Considering most macers do not have magery, the healing skill generally also figures in the template. However, with the Chilvalry skill which allows you to heal while wielding a weapon, it could be a good alternative to healing. Parry is the other skill every macer should take into consideration. Parry allows to block the blows of your ennemy and will be especially usefull against the special combat moves.

Skill What to Fight
0 Buy Skills from NPC fighter
30 Shadow Wisps, Bulls, Skeletons
60 Earth Elementals, Harpies
85 Stone harpies*, Stone Gargoyles
95 Jhelom Pit fighters
100 Rotting Corpses

Note that you can GM off stone harpies, it just gets slower at higher levels. Shadow Wisps are good for resist. At higher levels Titans are also a good way to go. As well are a tinkered Golem.

The Weapons

In the table below, you will find the list of all the weapons using the macing skill. Note that the war axe DOES NOT require the lumberjacking skill.

One-Handed
Weapon Damage Speed
Smith's Hammer 6-18 30
Wand 2-6 35
Club 8-24 40
Hammer Pick 6-33 30
Maul 10-30 30
Mace 8-32 30
War Axe 9-27 40
Two-Handed
Weapon Damage Speed
Shepherd's Crook 3-12 30
Black Staff 8-33 35
Quarter Staff 8-28 48
War Hammer 8-36 31
Scepter 17-19 N/A

In the one-handed category, the club and war axe are among the fastest weapons and cause a good deal of damage. Being one-handed weapons, you can also benefit from the additional protection of Parry with a shield.

In the two-handed category, quarter staff is without contest the best weapon to use. It will do a great deal of damage and is also the fastest mace weapon. You will also not be able to use a shield when wielding that weapon. But your parry skills will not be lost as you may still block attack (post AoS) based on your parry skills.
