"If the only tool you have is a hammer,
you tend to see every problem as a nail"

   – Abraham Maslow

Macing is a hammer and mace weapon combat skill. It uses the slowest of all weapons but this lack of speed is well compensated by uber damage, the ability to drain the stamina of your opponent. To increase the amount of damage you will deal, the Anatomy skill is also a must. Considering most macers do not have magery, the Healing skill generally also figures in the template. However, with the Chilvalry skill which allows you to heal while wielding a weapon, it could be a good alternative to healing. Parry is the other skill every macer should take into consideration. Parry allows to block the blows of your ennemy and will be especially usefull against the special combat moves.

Skill What to Fight
0 Buy Skills from NPC fighter
30 Bulls, Cows, Great Harts, Hinds
40 Skeletons
70 Earth Elementals, Air Elementals*
90 Dull Copper Elemental, Rotting Corpses
100 Rotting Corpses

* Fighting a GM tinkered Golem using a 100% poison macing weapon will take to GM quickly.

Note that you can GM off stone harpies, it just gets slower at higher levels. Shadow Wisps are good for resist. At higher levels Titans are also a good way to go. When training with a Golem you own, you must be guilded and you must make sure you tell him to guard you so that he doesn't do any damage to you otherwise he will kill you in 2 hits.

In the table below, you will find the list of all the weapons using the macing skill. Note that the war axe DOES NOT require the lumberjacking skill.

In the one-handed category, the club and the mace are among the fastest weapons and cause a decent amount of damage. Being one-handed weapons, you can also benefit from the additional protection of Parry with a shield. But special attacks should also be taken into consideration.

In the two-handed category, the nunchaku and quarter staff are the fastest weapons but depending on what use you will make of it, the Tetsubo with its frenzied whirlwind is nothing to sneeze at. Same goes for Black Staff. If you're doing champ spawns, that area effect can be extremely handy.
