"To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence;
supreme excellence consists in breaking
the enemy's resistance without fighting."

–  Sun Tzu

Magic Resistance allows your character to resist or lessen the duration of debuff spells casted against you (curse, weaken, clumsy, mana vampire, mana drain, paralyze etc.).  Any character that will PvP should possess that skill, as poison, and paralyze are your worst ennemies, regardless of what fighter class you belong to. You want to GM that skill as soon as possible.

Skill What To Do
0 Buy skills from NPC Mage
30 Run through Fire fields*, shadow wisps, air elementals**
70 Reapers

* Fire field only works if you're in a war guild (regardless of facet) or if the field has been casted by a murderer you are not in the same guild with, otherwise you will sustain no damage, hence no gains

** Those air elementals are summons, not the wild creatures. Do it in Trammel with a non-guilded character and you will sustain 0 damage but you will still gain resist. Since the elementals have a tendency to run all over the place, do it in a confined area so they are always within range. I find boats to be an excellent place to do this.

For the next method, you will need a VERY good resistances suit and preferrably good faster casting and plenty of cure/heal pots and/or orange petals. The more offensive spells are casted your way, the more chances you stand of gaining.  So you want to be as heavily bombarded as possible.

Reapers

The reaper method could GM even Legend you in no time at all. First, you need to get the GGS gain out of the way. Usually, casting poison on yourself will take care of that. DO NOT eat resist powerscrolls too early on. The Reapers method requires to wear resist jewels so you can be at your resist cap. For instance, if you are at 70 magic resist, you could wear a set of jewels (+15 ring and +15 bracelet) that will take you to 100 magic resist). If you've already eaten a resist PS, wearing jewels will not put you at your cap and will hamper your gains.

So jewel yourself up to your cap (+15 is the maximum on a jewel so you can only start that method as of 70+ depending what kind of resist jewels you have). Then go to the Reapers Valley outside Minoc Caves. Stand in front of a reaper and let it dump on you. If you don't get a gain after a couple of minutes, kill that reaper and move to the next. Once you have gotten a gain, DO NOT MOVE. Stay still and make sure that reaper stays alive. Every single time that one reaper casts a spell you could gain from (based on your skill) you will get a gain. Once your gain run has stopped of you have reached your skill cap, eat your powerscroll and make sure your jewels take you to your new cap. If you eat a PS while in your gain run, chances are it will stop so you want to avoid that.

Obtaining the first gain AFTER the GGS can be extremely long. Wear your jewels and hit the Reapers. If after 30 minutes to 1 hour you still haven't gained, log out that character and don't use it for approximately 3 to 4 hours. Try again after that for another 30 mins. It can sometimes take many days before you finally find that magic reaper that will give you your gain run. It varies from one char to the other. But if luck is on your side, you could go from 0 to 120 resist in about 3 days.
